Online Mediation took off during the pandemic and remains popular with parties because it is effective. Mark Packard has conducted numerous mediations with participants in different cities and states. Counsel can be in one city or state and their clients can be another. Although face to face mediations are preferred, Mark has had just as much success with online mediations as he has had with in-person mediations. Of course, the major benefit from online mediations is the saved expense for hourly billings and travel expenses incurred by attorneys and the parties. Mark has also found online mediations to be quite efficient. A lot of down time is saved because attorneys and clients can work on other matters in their office while remaining fully engaged in the mediation.
The proceedings are confidential. All meetings are assigned a private meeting number and passcode. No one is admitted without an invitation. With the Zoom application, Mark can place attorneys and their clients into a virtual, private conference room where they retain complete confidentiality and privacy. No one can hear them or see them.
The Zoom application is simple to use. An invitation is sent by email a few days prior to the mediation. Parties and counsel need only to download the zoom app and click on the invitation link sent by email and then turn on the audio and video.
